How To Make Cake Pan Release

Once in a while I find something that changes the way I cook or bake in a big way. Cake pan release is on that list.

If you typically grease then flour your baking pans for all of your baking pan prep you are in for a treat.

What is cake pan release

Cake pan release can go by different names. Cake release, pan grease, cake goop and oh-my-goodness-where-have-you-been.

Cake release is used when preparing pans so cakes fall out easily. It can also be used for other baked goods including brownies, bars and quick breads.

It is made with equal parts of shortening, flour and oil.

You can use cake pan release in any step that calls for you to prepare a pan with grease and flour. It helps to ensure your wonderful baked goods actually come out of the pan.

How to use cake pan release

Instead of greasing then flouring a baking pan, cake release does it all in one step. You can apply it with a pastry brush or a paper towel.

I particularly like using cake pan release for Bundt cake pans or pans that have intricate designs. It is extremely helpful for covering grooves and corners.

Storing cake release

Cake release should be stored in an airtight container such as a glass jar or plastic food storage container.

It is generally recommended that pan release kept in the fridge should be used within 6 months and if kept at room temperature to use within 2 weeks.

If your pan release ever starts to separate no problem, just stir until it comes together again.
